A town like many others

All of us like to think that there is something special about our town, Thornton Wilder even took this and made it literate in his masterpiece.  Without trying to sound trite, I have to say that this is true for everyone.  For every person, particularly those who were lucky enough to have a place to call a home town where they grew up, such a place takes a powerful hold upon the mind.  It becomes for every person his own Eden, his Paradise Lost, and represents the innocence lost as the trials of adulthood coe upon us.  Summer days, winter nights.  These linger.  They become sometimes anchors and at other times mere crutches.

My hope is that here I will, with the help of friends, neighbors, and strangers, begin to gather the history of my hometown.  I invite all who visit this site and who have lived in Mapleton, to share their memories of Mapleton; of its people and its history.  I want to gather in all I can, from diaries, memories, and oral histories.   I look forward to hearing from everyone.
